Did I mention I’m in a little printmaking class at CCAE? It’s all water-based, which appeals to me since I’d like to be able to do some stuff at home and in their open studio, and I don’t like working with solvents and such. Anyway, I missed a bunch of classes in a row (doh!), but here’s what I was fooling around with tonight. It’s on a tiny little block, about 2×4″, so I was having a little trouble keeping control of the cuts, but it came out better than most of the other ghastly things I’ve made in the class.

This was another quick concept art piece done on my new tablet. I didn’t have time to really finish it, but I like the delicacy I was able to get in the digital linework. I really like this tablet, though I think I probably should have ponied up more bucks for a lighter one.
My take on The Lady of Shalott
I’ve also been doing a lot of style tests for The Odyssey. I want to post some sketches for that at some point, but Candlewick doesn’t want me to ruin any surprises, so I’m not quite sure what to post.

My second painting with ArtRage; starting to have a little more control. This is the Japanese sun goddess Amaterasu, who shut herself in a cave when her brother Susano-O went on a rampage.

I feel strangely sentimental about him, moreso than many other entertainers who have passed away. Maybe it’s because I grew up with his movies, or maybe it’s something about his everyman style. He was always so *earnest*. And even though he was playing some pretty old characters already 10-20 years ago, it still seems strange that he was 75. Regardless, my respects to Mr. Scheider.

No, it’s not like road rage, it’s a $25 painting program I picked up for my tablet PC. I used it to experiment with a piece for the environment design challenge on conceptart.org. I let the paint get a bit too heavy, but that’s part of the fun.
