This is a bit of a late post, as it concerns not this past weekend, but the weekend before. Alison and I were in Northampton for her Smith reunion. It was a fun time, with new friends made, and we managed to see a good bit of art as well. Here are some sketches from the Smith Art Museum, which is really amazing for its size.
A few more from the museum on the right; and on the left, some fantastic sculptures by Leonard Baskin in the (huge) Michelson Gallery. They have a lot of other great stuff, including Barry Moser and Ernesto Montenegro.

A little thank-you card for a friend who gave us one of his paintings.

The magnificent Brooklyn Bridge (from the Brooklyn side, if that’s not obvious) –
And some of the folks hanging out on the riverside at twilight –
Returning to Boston, the Longfellow Bridge –
And the footbridge by the Esplanade –

These are some of those sketches I promised from my Fabriano color sketchbook, from last year.

This was done with pencil and crayon, in a cool little colored Fabriano sketchbook I have. Scanning it for this post reminded me that I wanted to get some more of these sketchbooks, and the best price I found was here. It also reminded me that I have a lot of drawings I like from 2007 in the same sketchbook, so I might retroactively post some of those in the near future.

Just back from a nice relaxing week on the Cape. Mostly just for recreation, but I did do a talk for the Mass Library Association’s Youth Services meeting (blogged by MLA members here and here).
I also did a few drawings, though not as many as I might’ve expected.
The fish above are from the aquarium at Woods Hole, which is very small but has some nice specimens and a few interesting touches — such as being able to go behind the tanks.
