The Odyssey in Korean

I got an awesome surprise package in the mail yesterday. A box from Candlewick which turned out to contain 4 copies of my first translated edition: The Odyssey in Korean!

I suspect prose authors feel the same excitement when they get a copy of their book with an unfamiliar cover and a foreign title, but then of course the interior is completely impenetrable. With a graphic novel, on the other hand, I get to see my own artwork interspersed with cool Korean pictographic text and — best of all — sound effects. It’s *so* cool to see what they did with the sounds.

So now the question is, do I have any readers out there who are fluent in Korean? If so, would you like a free copy of The Odyssey (on the condition that you read it and tell me what you think of the translation)?

By the way, the publisher is Prooni Books. For some reason Google Translate doesn’t work on their site.

    We would be happy to evaluate your book. We presently have seven Korean international students at our high school and have enjoyed many Korean students who have attended SCA and gone on to excellent universities.

    In English I we teach The Odyssey and have two Korean students in the class. I would have an upperclassman Korean student read your book also and give you feedback on the translation.

    Please let me know if if we can mutually help each other in this way.

    I am a principal of an Early College in California. I have a Korean student, very bright but only in this country for less than a year. Obviously his language skills are low but we would like to continue his understanding of content (in his own language) as he is learning English—which someday will catch up. So, if you have a free one, or even a copy I can pay for, I’d love to get it for him. I am a believer that far too often we neglect understanding of content and hold students back in their acquisition of a language.

What I’ll actually send you will be the Korean Odyssey with Priority Mail shipping, but the order will at least cover my costs and materials.
